One of the first thing new or expectant parents add to their baby registry is the baby monitor. Many parents spend hours reading baby monitor reviews while others just pick the one that looks the coolest at the store.
There are a number of different types and styles of baby monitors on the market today and it’s important to arm yourself with the knowledge to choose the best baby monitor.
Your momma’s baby monitor as I like to call it is the most common and the one that has been around the longest. This is the standard audio monitor where one unit is plugged into a wall outlet in the baby’s room, the channel with the least interference is set and mom and dad have a receiving unit for listening in. The receiving unit can be either plugged into the wall or powered by a battery and attached to a belt. These units have come a long way and now use something known as DECT technology that help prevent interference and offer a crisp, clear sound.
The most recent product to hit the market is a sensor product that picks up on the baby’s movements or motions. The sensor is placed under the baby’s mattress and it monitors for both sound and movement. If there is no detection of sound for movement for a specified period of time then an alarm will sound so the parents can check on the baby. Many people use this in combination with one of the other monitors.
When selecting a baby monitor, you must first determine the type of monitor that will work best for you. After that, it’s time to dig into the reviews.
